Client Brief

The owners of this bespoke, contemporary and open-plan new build asked for a clean modern look, however they did not want the design to feel cold and clinical. They liked the idea of splashes of colour and pattern, set against a warm neutral backdrop. The clients were keen to create different areas within the open space for morning coffee, reading and entertaining, but overall, they wanted a home that had a consistent look and feel throughout. Whilst being very contemporary, they requested natural materials and lots of comfort.

My Design Solution

This house stood in lush gardens and overlooked the countryside, in addition to having an abundance of wall-to-wall glass.  I decided to incorporate lots of green in the design, so it reflected its verdant surroundings. Because it was open plan, I used the green hues throughout the ground floor for continuity, and so that the space flowed. This was, except for the snug, where I added a deep blue, to give it a particularly cosy feel. Throughout, I used modular and mid-century modern furnishings in woods and rattan for warmth and texture, along with oversized lighting and plants to fill the space. The seating and rugs were arranged to create different zones for both entertaining and solo pursuits.
