Client Brief

The commission was to create a simple, tranquil and harmonious design in this spacious Victorian house, whilst reflecting it’s lovely beach side location. And whilst the clients wanted to modernise the space, they also wanted to maintain the beautiful, original period features. They requested an elegant, restful design in the more formal living room, whilst on the ground floor they asked for more punchy colours and a slightly more casual vibe. Natural and simple design elements was also an important factor.  They requested a new yet timeless kitchen, with some stand out furniture and accessories.

My Design Solution

Creating a modern classic design throughout, I began in the living room by introducing tranquil, turquoise tones. The clients asked for the existing sand coloured carpet to stay, so the eau de nil wall hue not only cooled the floor colour down, it was also a nod to the sea-side location of the house. In the living room I bought the high ceilings down, by introducing a giant capiz shell light, whilst in the dining area I appointed over-sized wicker shades. In the kitchen/diner and adjoining snug, I installed a black slate floor and a chalky grey kitchen with classic Carrera marble worktops. Against the neutral backdrop, I added splashes of red, plus geometric trellis pattern, along with some vintage furniture for interest.
